Visit of the Regional Minister for University, Research and Innovation to IVAGRO (Jerez headquarters)

During yesterday’s institutional visit (10/04/2023) of the Regional Minister of University, Research and Innovation of the Andalusian Government, José Carlos Gómez, to know the academic and scientific potential of the Jerez Campus of the UCA, he visited the facilities of the IVAGRO in the aforementioned campus. Accompanied by the Rector of the UCA, Francisco Piniella, and the Vice-Rector for Digitalisation and Infrastructures, Carlos Rioja, they got to know the activities carried out by IVAGRO on the Jerez Campus. Specifically, Professor Lázaro Lagóstena explained the operation of the Geodetection SPI, one of the SPIs that carries out the most transfer activity with the outside world on a regular basis. The use of aerial and terrestrial images, together with the information collected using available radars, allows research on underground structures in the field of the study of agri-food heritage.

On the other hand, studies related to wine heritage were also presented, both at the level of winery elements, as well as those related to the commercialisation of products, including transfer activities towards society.

We would also like to highlight that, during the visit, the UCA showed the progress in the construction of the lecture hall named after our former director Carmelo García Barroso and during the presentation of the works, the councillor reminded us of the excellent work Carmelo carried out in the development of new degrees at the UCA, as well as his magnificent research and transfer activity in the agri-food sector.
